Master Tank and Nila Go Home
So Pam Bondi pats herself on the back and has a press conference where she proclaims
to have become friends with the owners of these dogs. My guess is that the reality is that the case was about to come crashing down on her and every indication was these dogs were going back to the rightful owners, the Coutures who NEVER gave these dogs up. Pam's recent little press conference was nothing more than trying to correct the amazingly bad image she has gotten out of this at a time when her case was falling apart. She did this out of the goodness of her heart? She had 18 months to be "good." Anyone who would associate themselves with her at this point is a lunatic. She did bad and took advantage of people she thought she could roll right over because of who she is. (People who lost everything in a little storm called Katrina.) Rumors abound of other unsavory things that took place during this 18 months. If Bondi would do this to an innocent New Orleans family for 18 months what would she do to the people she is prosecuting in the state of Florida, for she surely prosecuted this family unfairly. The dogs are home where they belong only because the owners WOULD NOT give up, would not given in to Bondi's power, wealth, and high paid lawyers. She basically hired her own little dream team vs. doing the right thing from the start. It is scary state of our legal system that she "thought" she could get away with this. Common people should be just plain scared of the time and effort it takes to win a case even when you are 100% right. Bondi could have made everything right 18 months ago, just 2 months after Katrina when the dogs were located. Thousands of people all over the country supported the return of these dogs and that is why they are home along with the neverending strength of the Couture and
a quite lawyer who would not let this happen. Who is the better person? You decide 1) Pam Bondi a well eduacated, probably wealthy, successful lawyer who gets to speak up on CNN now and again? or 2) The Coutures and two grandchildren who lost everything in Katrina, have survived the death or their son/parents, raise their 2 grandchildren, and have rebuilt their home with their own hands and who have proven that even Katrina can't keep people like this down. I know who I'd rather have a beer with. What about you? These pictures tell the story of what Bondi was withholding from a family with 10 times more backbone. These pictures make her claims and her case disolve. She should have been down their helping these people rebuild their lives and home not fighting to keep them from their family. She has made this family shed a million tears in the last 18 months I am sure. Look at these pictures. Shame.

I am so glad this family now has their two beloved dogs home where they should be, however it absolutley disgusts me that the two women who adopted them would not give them back before now. What is wrong with this picture? This family has obviously been through a great deal even before Katrina. Those women are self righteous ----- who will eventually get what they deserve,
Eric! Thank you for keeping MT/Nila and the Coutures in the forefront. Thanks for seeing thru the smokescreen of why the other side finally gave up..they could have gone on and on, continuing the heartache to the family. It is because of folks like you and other public support and outcry - these Pinellas folks gave up. They could have dragged it on longer, even knowing they had lost. Webmasters and those who posted to boards, forums and to the local paper showing their support - helped make this happen. The smile on these children's faces and the dogs are priceless. Hopefully the rest of the legal cases refusing to give up, will see it's not possible to keep something which is not theirs.
HOME AT LAST !!!! I cried when Pam Bondi (in one of her first legal maneuvers) told the Coutures she'd see them in court and little Stevie's tiny voice asked "Then can we get the dogs back?" Anyone who could hear that little boys plea for his pet and NOT immediately make things right has SERIOUS problems. She put what she WANTED ahead of what was right. Personally - I think her career on CNN is over - I change the channnel at the very sight of her and I dont think I am alone in my disgust. Pam Bondi is right up there with OJ Simposon when it comes to ethics
I'm so thankful the Coutures never gave up in their quest to get their dogs back.
I hope that Jazz is next and will be returned to her owner soon! Enough is enough - these owners deserve to have their dogs!

It would be nice were we to petition the Florida State bar and the local bar association (is it tampa or pinellas?) where Messrs. Silverstein and Cummings et al practice to request that they be honored as "lawyers of the year." While it is encumbent on every attorney to undertake pro bono work, so many do not because they don't have the time, won't make the time, or work in firms that "dictate" that which is acceptable pro bono work (and usually, it is only that "forced" on the firm by court ordered appointments or cases that really aren't pro bono b/c they actually somehow correlate to the firm's commmerical practices).
And, those that do honor their pro bono duties often do so without any fanfare or appreciation.

You are exactly right Eric. I also followed this story from the beginning and what Pam Bondi did was nothing short of selfish. Thank you for following up with photos of the family with their doggy family members -- so much unnecessary pain was caused. Yep...the Coutures are a wonderful family indeed.

I was thrilled to see that the Coutures FINALLY have their dogs back! I walso wanted to say a big thanks to their legal team, particlarly Mr. Silvertstein.
Those of us who live in Florida, especially those of us who have tried to help the people of the Gulf Coast reunite with their animals, have been watching intently. I personally believe that it would be a prudent to investigate Ms. Bondi's conduct in the case as I believe she abused her position. I am unfortunately not in the same county, but if there is anything I can do as a resident of Florida to get the ball rolling, let me know. I know others who would join in.

Once again BETA (Beruit for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is trying to help animals while fighting goes on around them. As you may have heard, there are again clashes in Lebanon, and BETA has again had a close call with one of its cat shelters.

Exactly right Eric. Thanks for doing the followup story. I also followed the entire story and you have it exactly right. Along with the other person who commented I also change the channel at seeing Ms. Biondi's puss. So glad this family got what was rightfully theirs back home where these dogs always belonged.
